20th June Code Club - Minecraft

Minecraft for Education

Next we have VR VOOM Virtual reality workshop 7th July after school.

This week students hosted a server for Minecraft. The goal was to find a new country and learn how to survive by creating tools, finding food and being innovative. As one students said, by blood sweat and tears!

Here is some of the feedback of students who told me why they come to the club, what do they enjoyed and what the benefits are for them.

I joined coding club because I was always into games and other digital stuff.

I enjoy coding club because I can learn to code at my own pace and/or have fun playing minecraft  with my friends.

The benefits I get from coding club is spending more time with my friends, learning to code at my own pace, and getting to know new people.

Why?

I joined the coding club to make new friends that like coding and playing Minecraft with new people.

What do you enjoy?
Well, in coding, I enjoy playing Minecraft and coding and not being socially awkward.

Benefits?
The benefits of coding are that I can learn how to use computers and learn shortcuts through them.

The Community. Minecraft. The list can go on. It would be better if we have it on another day as well. Other than that, CC is great.

The reason why I joined the coding club is because I want to get involved with more activities and eventually open up to more and new people.

What I enjoy about coding club is that you get to do anything you want as long as it is coding related, you get to play with others and/ or do individual work like on Grok.

The benefits of joining the coding club is that you can socialise with different people and learn to code, and what types of coding there is that you will be able to learn.

March Coding Club news

Coding and Robotics March 2021 _________________________________________ We have grown from 12 to 30 students in our third coding session of the year!  We are a coding club that is welcoming for all students at Papakura High School and the local community. We have a safe and friendly environment where students have the opportunity to enjoy learning to code using a variety of tools such as Grok Learning to code in Python and Minecraft for Education. Today we introduced Robotics where students were able to build a robot from scratch in 40 minutes. Janet Van from Kiwibots volunteered to help our students by providing this exciting opportunity. Janet is the national manager for Kiwibots. https://www.kiwibots.co.nz/  After speaking to the students they showed a keen interest in robotics. We are aiming to also attend competitions locally, nationally and who knows one day internationally! Here is the link to join our coding club

Wednesday 16th & 23rd September

Students were awarded certificates and membership cards for their efforts for participating and completing a coding course. Adam Mcdonald Shergold was the winner of a OzoBot robot.  We were fortunate enough to welcome Mr Leung-Yid, who has joined the club as a mentor to the students. He is able to provide students of industry experience as a software engineer.  Great to welcome our new members from Primary, Aubrey and Nola.

Final Coding club session for 2020

Presentation of certificates and prizes The last session finished off with a buzz! Primary school students who attending were feeling happy to receive their certificate and prizes. Teachers came to support this kaupapa and acknowledge all our students, who said they were looking forward to coming back next year.  Throughout 2021 we will incorporate other ideas around what the students would like to do, including coding completions and exploring robotics.
